Two hole Aleut kayak
22'1" long 23" wide 9 5/8" deep ca. 1850's
The original of this kayak replica resides in the National Museum of
Finland. Thanks to Harvey Golden for lending me the
survey. This kayak sits low in the water and rolls pretty
good. I
imagine with a full load it would sit very low, despite that I had
almost no water in the kayak after a day of paddling and fishing
offshore. It does a respectable job of
punching through the surf and handles well running in a heavy sea
chop. The subtle flexibility was a comfort and
definately quiets the kayak. Most enjoyable though was the
weight, less than 50 lbs, without that we could have never
carried it on the long walks to and from the water
