Finished the new 22 1/2” size LPB frame a couple days ago. It was nice to get back to basics and just build one of my kayaks with zero modifications.
You can really see from the stern view how this kayak differs from most normal sea kayaks. The dramatically Swedeform shape is an inch narrower at the front of the cockpit then at the back, which makes for lovely stroke ergonomics, and the long thin bow slowly knifes into the water, plowing less liquid while still keeping enough volume above the waterline to climb through big foam piles in the surf. I‘l talk more about performance when I get it on the water.
I was planning on building the other half of my F1 Kayak Catamaran next week, but now I’m thinking I might just go ahead and build the final missing size for this design.
The remaining size I don’t have yet is the 21 1/2 inch wide version that would be ideal for someone 120 to 140 pounds. That would be a great size for Liz who sits a little high in the standard LPB, and I’m curious to see if it might make a nice low volume day trip boat for me.
