Just a couple easy Greenland rolls and a really bad hand roll attempt from yesterdays filming session. (I’d been on the water for over an hour and was exhausted).
This shows pretty clearly both the advantage of a full-size spare Greenland paddle on the front deck and the value of Greenland rolling in general. Spending all that time playing around trying to learn different rolls your standard roll just becomes an afterthought. This opens up a whole world of boat performance and places you can paddle.
I feel like a solid roll is the third most valuable kayaking skill. The first being judgment (knowing when and where to paddle and when not to), and the second a reflexive low brace.
