Whether you’re a really large person or a really small person it can be hard to find kayaks that truly fit you well. The cool thing about working in skin on frame where I can change any variable in the boat is that it’s pretty easy to adjust sizing for unique users.
My F1 design comes in seven sizes my LPB three sizes and my Greenland kayak also three sizes. Overall I feel like I’ve got things pretty dialed in for people 100 to 250 pounds. Where things get a little tricky is for even bigger people. I’ve found that their perceived stability does not necessarily scale linearly with increase in boat size. I still don’t feel like I have good option boat for someone in the 300 pound range but I’m working on it.
Yesterday evening Ryan (290) helped me out by testing my largest LPB down at Cathedral Park. I still think this boat tops out at about 260. But it was very useful to see him on the water in it. Thanks Ryan!
After checking out how he fit in the LPB, the next thing we tried was seeing how he would fit in my Japanese microvan.
