I’m having trouble deciding on the next steps in the big person kayak evolution.
I was going to build another 275 pound version, but this time an exact proportional scale of the F1, as opposed to my slightly modified scale that we tested last week. But after seeing the layout for that turn my system into a disaster of decimals and fractions, I decided that keeping a clean measurement system was probably more important than shifting the center of mass 1 inch. That’s a risky assumption, but I’m gonna go for it.
So my new plan is to give the plans and the videos to an experienced paddler for free for beta testing, then based on that, I will either modify and repeat the process or release the design officially.
So anyone out there is 275 pounds and is an experienced paddler and has time to do a quick build, let me know.
So next up, I think I’m just gonna start working my way down through the sizes, replacing the 250 and 225lb versions of the F1 and the LPB, and adding a 275 to both.
considering that I still have to do work on the canoe system AND the sailing system this year, the only way that I can see myself updating four sizes and adding two new ones is to take the same approach of build a frame float test and then send the design out for beta testing. I could even sell some of these frames if someone just wanted to put a skin on it. That’s not normally how I design kayaks but I’ve been doing with my canoes for a few years now with positive results.
I keep changing my mind every day, but right now I think that’s the direction we’re going…
