Video: Re-steaming a kayak to flatten the hull

Most people make it through our online skin boat classes without having any issues, but part of what you’re paying for when you purchase my courses is customer support if something goes wrong. You can text or call me anytime day or night, I will ship you free replacement parts even if you broke them, and if you are local I will even come help you in person. Basically, I’ve got your back from the minute you sign up to when you are happily floating on the water in a boat you love.
.
For example, yesterday I invited a student over to the shop and spent half a day re-steaming and flattening his entire kayak because he had disregarded a critical step that I repeat 4 times in the video. (It was too round on the bottom and would have ended up tippy on the water)
.
I really am happy to do stuff like this for people but a problem is starting to emerge where I’m spending a lot of my time supporting students who aren’t actually watching the videos. I know this because on the administrative side of the platform I can see how much of each video a student is watching. I have no problem helping people out and in fact I would prefer that people reach out with questions if they’re not sure about something and I usually answer texts within minutes. But when I spend a long time troubleshooting an issue and then I go into the administrative platform and see that you didn’t watch the videos, that doesn’t feel very respectful of my time.
.
So this post is just a friendly reminder for anyone who is taking my skin on free building classes. Please watch the videos, they are super comprehensive and designed to help you avoid all the common skinboat building mistakes. Thanks!
