Sound on! As long as I have the forms for the shearwater set up on my work tables, I figured I might as well laminate up a second set of stems and frames in case I ever want to build another one. So that brings me up to 10 large laminations, which has really improved my technique.
For this batch, I made the laminations 1 1/4 x 1/8 and I used a 4 inch wide roller instead of a 3 inch wide roller, which works out perfect. I also used half-inch by half-inch square sticks underneath the lamination as opposed to the quarter inch towels I was using before which gave me enough knuckle clearance that it was much easier to twist the screw clamps.
Even in 100 degree heat, the west system 207 hardener gave me plenty of working time, and as usual, I’m cleaning as I go every step of the way to keep the shop from becoming a sticky mess.
