Well heck…

Well heck...We are re-filming huge portions of the Cape Falcon Kayak video courses right now, but this is only useful if I’m actually teaching the correct information! It’s been many years since I built one of my East Greenland replica kayaks and at the end of today’s build and film session I went to take some measurements off the survey drawing and realized that I’m a full 1/4” too deep in the bow area. This probably wouldn’t matter to most people but I’m obsessive about preserving the exact dimensions of historic kayaks. So, we cut it apart and do it again. The ribbing is only about a two hour job, it’s the 10 hours spent on the video that chafes!
.
i’m running painfully short on time right now, so I’m probably gonna have to set this build aside for a few months and just focus on the West Greenland updates. A bit of a bummer because I really want to get some on the water videos made about this kayak soon. This particular East Greenland kayak is actually one of my favorite replicas but there’s not much information about it on my website because so few have been built. It’s a tight fit but it remains one of the only true East Greenland replicas that most normal people have any hope of fitting inside of. It’s also just got a beautiful speed/drag profile, With a surprisingly full underwater shape despite the appearance of the deck. Also pretty darn stable for an 18 inch wide kayak. Relatively speaking.
