Here’s a few drone clips from the launch of the kayak catamaran prototype. I still need to change the board spacing and modify the attachment system and add a rudder to at least one of the kayaks before we can start rough water and sailing trials.
I originally envisioned this as a way for us to sail together in rough water but is soon as I got in it I could immediately tell that was just the tip of the iceberg. I can see a ton of utility here for people with small children, people who are getting older, people with disabilities (like myself!) and just a ton of entertaining ways to mess around on the water.
Liz: “You’re going to make me paddle while you fish aren’t you?”
Me: “Absolutely.”
Liz and I have actually done quite a bit of this sort of paddling ever since I developed this system for our nesting canoes, including running class two whitewater with fully loaded canoes. If you scroll back in the feed far enough you can see video clips of that. It’s a good option for us because it helps to work around my physical limitations but I can still use my boating experience to navigate. It’s been a lot of fun on the river and I’m hoping we can translate that experience into open water kayak sailing.
