We are excited to announce the Canoe Oar and Outrigger Building Class, available on our website for $25.
Like all of our classes, this obsessively detailed 4 hour video course and 8 page plan set covers tool selection, materials, workspace setup, and step by step building instruction that helps you skip the learning curve and create a beautiful, tough, lightweight, well-fitted set of oars on your first effort.
This outrigger and oar set is designed to mimic the rowing geometry of the Adirondack guide boat. It can be mounted to any canoe with strong enough gunwales and can be removed, even on the water, to switch to paddling mode.
The outrigger also makes a fantastic back rest while sailing downwind and the oar works great for steering.
Note: for anyone wanting to try to build this set up from the screenshots here, feel free but keep in mind that this was from a first generation copy of the plans and 30% of each page is missing. The real value here isn’t in the plans anyways it’s in all the tips and tricks in the videos that are there to help you avoid ruining a set of oars and starting over after you’ve put in 20 hours of work already.
If you build this set up definitely send me pictures and a rowing report!
