Canoe fitting. Tom is going to be carrying this canoe for 33 days, climbing over 125 miles to an altitude over 17,000 ft, so trying the canoe on for size seemed like a good idea.
When I heard about what Tom and Kyle of The Weight We Carry are doing – carrying canoes to unusual places to raise awareness for mental health – I wanted to set them up with canoes both because it’s a cause that’s personally important to me, and because a set of lightweight, nesting canoes would make even just the logistics of getting started on their journey a little easier. It was only after we had Tom down in the shop that we realized that the fact that the canoes nest meant that one person could also carry both if the other needs to rest an injury – which is fairly likely on the climb to Everest base camp. And the translucent skin means that Tom and Kyle won’t be stuck under dark canoes for a month.
Glad to be contributing to this crazy adventure, and looking forward to watching these canoes climb mountains in January. Check out The Weight We Carry to learn more about what these guys are doing, and the cause they’re supporting.
