Day 3, Row/sail canoe, version 2

Day 3) row/sail canoe, version 2. 7hrs.
.
Started the day by using the Slickplane to round all the stringers and some edges on the gunwales. For those of you not familiar with this handy little tool it’s a huge timesaver whenever you need to break a lot of edges. They aren’t built very well and they need to be carefully set, but I’ve never met a radius plane that works better.
.
Recorded all my various heights and rockers on my handy layout sheets (thanks me!) and then set up the deck, fastened the ends, built the stems, and set the keel. I used cedar stems in a vain effort to lose a little weight.
.
In the basement both myself and my girlfriend are thrilled with the Le Tonkinois varnish. She is super sensitive to smells and often times even natural oils can set off a migraine. Not so with the Le Tonkinois. I like that I can use it in the house and I don’t need to buy organic vapor cartridges to use it. Addressing the question of durability I found an article online where a few dozen varnishes were left in the Florida sun for two years. Le Tonk was in the middle of the pack, which I think is pretty good for a natural product.
