I’ve been trying to do more filming with the GoPro lately, playing around with solo filming and trying to get more interesting shots. It’s cool to bring people along from my point of view.
I bought the GoPro Hero 7 Black as a dedicated time lapse camera for a non-boat related project a few years ago but I haven’t really used it that much because to be perfectly honest, it is buggy A.F. I’m constantly having to pull the battery out to reset its brain when it freezes. I don’t know if I just got a bad one or if they were all like that?
If you can get past that aspect of things though it’s actually a pretty amazing little camera. Pretty durable, good color rendition, multiple field of view choices, time lapse lapse and slow motion options, decent on the auto settings, surprisingly good audio for what it is, astonishing stabilization, and the option to add on screen gauges for various motion metrics if you’re willing to suffer through GoPro‘s still not very good editing software as a preliminary step to whatever real editing program you have.
Aside from the issue of it constantly freezing on me it seems pretty incredible for a video camera that’s half the size of a stick of butter. I wonder if the newer ones are less glitchy?
