Flat deck sailing catamaran F1 kayak build, post 6. Reframing the deck and adding sailing, catamaran, and drain plug reinforcements.
Now that I’ve decided to keep this kayak for myself and build another for my customer, the design mission for this boat changes. I’m getting rid of the heavy skin, reframing the deck, and adding reinforcements for my new sailing kayak catamaran system.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because it’s going to give me time to finalize my decisions on the flat deck variation, add that to the plan set, and film the instructions for how to build it.
I’ve decided to let go of the slightly curved deck beam ahead of the foot area, making this the second deck reframe of that detail in two boats, only to finally arrive right back where I started with this idea.
I tried very hard to get a little more vertical cargo height here but ultimately the best I could do was an extra 1/4 inch and that’s just not worth the complexity of a second laminated deck beam. The reason I can’t go taller is because the stringers start to interfere with the forward catamaran board position.
After adding a drain plug block I glued on some reinforcements so I can add a rudder for sailing performance.
