Tiniteqilaaq Update

For everyone who donated to our campaign to send our friends in East Greenland to the Greenland national Kayaking Championships in Illulissat, I want to pass along some photos and an email we received from Max the schoolmaster who organized the trip:.

“We came back yesterday from Ilulissat. It has been an amazing time. Our little team from East Greenland got 16 medals, 4 gold. All the 4 children attended different races and got some medals. Gerth was with us, 77 year old and was a skilled hunter with a skin kayak. He harpooned 17 narwhales at his younger age. When we came back in the village there was proud and joy for all the villagers and congratulations too.”.

Thanks to the generosity of our followers on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, we were able to raise enough not only to send the schoolchildren of Tiniteqilaaq to the National Kayak Championships, but also to send them two huge boxes of kayak building supplies and paddling gear. We’re in the process now of ordering gear so the kids will be well equipped, along with tools, wood, skins and coating for their next three skin on frame kayaks.

Again, living in an extremely isolated village of less than 100 people, it’s hard to overstate The value of this experience for these kids. Thank you.

We never took the GoFundMe down so if you feel like adding a few bucks, you can find it at “Send Tiniteqilaaq kids to the Kayak Championship”: https://www.gofundme.com/f/send-tiniteqilaaq-kids-to-the-kayak-championship

We’re looking forward to incorporating funding for native Arctic boatbuilding and paddling projects into Cape Falcon in more ways in the future, including donating a portion of all our paddling gear sales.
