Video: Forgetting basic rolling skills

If you follow me here it’s no secret that I don’t paddle much anymore due to health issues, it’s been about 12 years now which is pretty hard to wrap my mind around, but it does lead to some comical moments when I realize I have actually forgotten basic skills.
.
For example: Doing hand rolls in my latest Greenland prototypes I was surprised to be having such a hard time. I was getting the job done but it’s been a rather spastic affair with lots of wild arm flailing and missed attempts.
.
The whole time I’m thinking that I must just be getting old and stiff and weak but then I realized yesterday that I had completely forgotten the secret to easy Greenland hand rolls, just slide yourself forward about 4 inches in the cockpit. This pins you to the bottom of the boat better and and lets you lean back a little further, which allows even these very sloppy hand rolls to pop up easily.
.
Also as long as I’m here this morning I just want to mention that every time I post one of these rolling videos I usually get at least a couple of overly gushing comments or ones that are entirely made of handclaps and heart eyes emoji. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I actually kind of hate emoji‘s and I’m pretty OK without the praise. Also I’m really just not that good of a roller. There’s people who definitely are superstar Greenland rollers, but it ain’t me. So let’s just simmer down a little in the comments and stick to the paddling discussions. Thanks!
