Check out this tandem canoe built by one of our students using our plans and videos. This is George’s second canoe, he started with a solo before moving on to a tandem. Both boats nest together for transportation or storage, which is a standard part of our system.
“I finished this last week and this afternoon my son an I took it out for its maiden voyage. It fast and very maneuverable. It doesn’t feel like any other tandem canoe I’ve been in. For an almost 17’ canoe I can easily use it as a solo by sitting in the front seat going backwards. The whole thing took about 60 hours to build and it weighs 10 pounds less than my last cedar strip canoe. Some details:
Gunwales 17’ 4”
Rocker 1 1/2” + 1/2” progressive.
Sheer design 8” actual 5 1/8” + 2” end blocking
Width 36”.
1” tumblehome on ea side.
Center depth 13 5/8”.
Douglas fir for all the longitudinal members
14” white pine recurve stems.
White oak ribs.
Walnut seats and rub strips.
Butternut floor boards.”
