I LOVE this old machine but knife changes really suck. Every stick of bending oak we use or sell starts out by getting planed down by this 1940s direct drive 12 inch Parks planer. With that workload steel knives only make it about three months before they need to be re-sharpened, which isn’t terribly expensive but the downtime and the knife setting time hurts. I’ve been running these Infinity Tools carbide-tipped straight knives just to avoid the change outs which is 100% worth the $150 I pay for a three knife set. This set lasted 18 months which is pretty darn good. Just a quick note if anyone from Infinity is reading this these latest knives are a couple thousands thick, which on the parks head is the difference between them sliding in and having to beat them in with a block of wood and a hammer. Not easy or fun. Just an FYI.
