Video: Oar building, part 5

Oar building video 5.
.
Finally finishing up the oars and shooting the oar and canoe outrigger building class. This was a really challenging build due to health issues that forced me to stop working for four days after carving a single oar blade, but also just because I added some major improvements to my system halfway through and had to completely re-shoot the first half the class.
.
I’m pretty happy with the finished product though. The oar is a modified Adirondack guide boat oar that can be shaped square for pins, or rounded for free floating oars you can feather. The loom is Sitka spruce to keep things nice and light and the blades are ash for toughness. The outrigger is made out of birch ply and can be adapted for a variety of rowing and boat styles.
.
We are shooting the introduction to the course this afternoon and then it should be about a week to edit and build the course while Liz works her magic drawing up the plans. I’ll post an update once everything is ready on the site. Hope you enjoyed following along!
