I’ve upgraded the seating for the pedal drive canoe prototype. I started out with an 18 inch long flat seat because I thought I would need the thigh support, but I quickly realized that wasn’t actually necessary and it didn’t leave me enough room to sit on the floor of the canoe while sailing. This ash curved, laminated seat is 12 inches wide with a 1 inch drop and the tiller bar is three plies of western red cedar laminated between two plies of cherry. Overall this ends up weighing 5 oz less than the last version, which doesn’t seem like much, but I think I can shave another 2 ounces on the next one, and another couple ounces on the next version of the backrest. I’ll try it out tonight and see how it feels on the water.
