Skin on Frame Canoe Time Lapse 9. Don’t forget the sound button.
Skinning the canoe happens on a single day, but I’m gonna break it into two separate videos so I can show all the steps. I’ll post the second half tomorrow.
The fabric I use is the 840 Xtra Tuff nylon from skinboats.com. There are many different options for covering a skin boat but I use this stuff almost exclusively because it’s a good, tough, medium weight fabric that shrinks reliably. Here’s the numbers for this first half:
Task times in minutes:
10 draping the fabric
70 cutting and stitching up the ends
10 stretching and pinning the keel
15 wetting the skin
20 stapling the skin
10 misting the fabric
25 clamping on the outwales
Task time: 2 hrs 40 min
Total build time so far: 33 hrs 30 min
