“Maximum saturation adventure”
The mission: to kayak south until it becomes dangerous or is no longer fun.
On July 10th myself and Don Golden embarked on an ultralight ‘alpine style’ kayak trip down the Oregon coast. 2 days, 40 miles, and 4 scenic capes later we were pinned down by a freak midsummer storm for five days on a shrinking beach. An injury forced Don to hike out mid trip. During the next 3 days I blasted down the coastline towed by a parafoil kite on a contiuous whitewater sleigh ride. Boiling seas, powerful winds, blowing sands, hellish portages, and even a 50 mile hitchhike around the Oregon Dunes. Intense beauty punctuated by sheer insanity. I ended the trip because I was full, maxed out on adventure. What a great feeling to have a months vacation in 9 days.
220 miles in 5 days on the water. (70 miles hitchhiked) I can’t wait to do the next section to California. As soon as my body recovers.
This is the beach we were trapped on as endless plunging waves assaulted the shoreline, I’ve highlighted out kayaks in yellow, can you see them?
