Testing Earth Pigments

Today we are testing 20 different earth pigments mixed into the two part polyurethane we use to cover our skin on frame boats. This is a super expensive test, consuming about $600 in materials with 3 people working for 8 hours, but when we’re done I will have a color chart that not only takes the guesswork out of coloring with earth pigments, but also guarantees chemical compatibility with the coating to minimize the chance of accidentally turning your brand new skinboat into a disaster or an expensive and time consuming re-skin.

Hopefully this test will benefit many skinboat builders who are looking for a colorfast alternative to acid dye.
