Video: Testing the Swiftwater Touring Kayak

swiftwater touring skin-on-frame kayak
After two years of waiting I was finally able to (very carefully) test the latest prototype of the swift water touring design I’ve been working on for over 10 years now!

Careful not because of the skin on frame construction, but just because I’m dealing with some spinal instability right now so I have to paddle VERY gently and let the boat do most of the work.

This also gave me a chance to see how our Skydio drone would follow over white water. The GPS pairing was a bit fussy this time, (usually happens when it needs a firmware update) but overall it tracked quite well. I put it in front of me where I could instantly see if something went wrong.

The most important thing is just taking the time to really understand how the drone works and following best practices so you don’t lose it. I only flew it for a few minutes didn’t get a lot of footage, but still very useful for seeing how the boat is performing.

I’ll post some ground level video and talk more about the kayak tomorrow. I think we are still another prototype and a lot of testing away from being able to release the design, but these latest test results are quite promising.
