The thing I love most about skin on frame


The thing I love most about skin on frame construction is that it’s an incredible prototyping medium.  Once you have the basic concepts, it’s dangerously easy to turn your imagination into reality.

A few years ago Uwe in Germany, built a few of my Canoes and also my F1 kayak design.

After that, a friend of his was interested in a short recreational kayak that would fit inside of his vehicle, so Uwe studied the lines from a commercial recreational kayak and came up with this adorable little 3 meter boat.  Here’s how he describes it:

“It's super light ( 9 kg ) and super convenient to put inside the car! I like the shape - looks like a compressed version of the F1. It is super stable ( 82 cm wide ) It turns really fast. It is much slower than my F1 and driving straight is more difficult....”
