There are some truly incredible craftsman in the world and I am not one of them. My work is focused more on helping people build simple, efficient core skill sets that they can build on however they want to.
I got this email this morning from Jukka who built this lovely Greenland paddle after watching our the Free Greenland Paddle building course. He’s a little more generous about the course than I would be, it’s been quite a while since I made that and it’s looking pretty tired these days compared to our newer stuff, but apparently it still gets the job done because the paddle he ended up with is much nicer than any paddle I’ve ever made!
“Hi Brian!
Just wanted to give thanks for the great free paddle building instructions. Clear and well thought out. Also nicely presented.
Already made the paddle, but gladly ordered the plans to support you for the great help. Attached a couple of pics.
Took my first paddling with it too. At first it was quite weird compared to my WIng paddle. But soon quite nice. Still a lot of getting used to and finding the right technique, but two things stood out quite soon: 1) silence! So sweet the silence of paddling. Soul soothing. 2) The lift that the paddle produces is surprising! Slicing the water or low braces – just wow. Easy as pie! Also benefits the entry and getting out of the kayak nicely – as you showed in your video. Thanks a lot!”.
