After four months of shooting and editing, we just launched the explainer video for the new West Greenland Kayak design on Cape Falcon Kayak YouTube channel.
For those of you who didn’t follow the design progression of this kayak, basically I mixed and matched features from all the collected museum examples of early 20th century rifle hunting kayaks, iterating in rapid succession and ultimately created a kayak that paddles much better than any specific museum example but it still completely within the boundaries of what was done historically on these kayaks.
The result is the first Greenland kayak that I LOVE paddling. Completely different than a modern sea kayak and definitely not a substitute for one, but on its own terms this is just a lovely kayak to paddle and roll.
I also created a scaling system to make this sizable in 11 different sizes for users from 110-220 lbs.
In the video I talk about my history with greenland kayaks, the design process, the sizing, the outfitting, and how it performs on the water. We spent quite a bit of money on the rights to historic images for this video so it’s worth watching for that content alone.
