Video: West Greenland Kayak Time Lapse 1: Setting up the gunwales and making the deck beams

West Greenland Kayak Time Lapse 1: Setting up the gunwales and making the deck beams. Total build time so far, about 11 hrs. (Prepping the gunwales and making the coaming not shown) FYI there’s music.
.
I think I’m gonna time lapse this one just to keep things interesting. Build times listed represent actual woodworking time not the time I spend staring and fretting, which is most of what I do when designing a new boat. I can usually complete these tasks about twice as fast as students who have to take the time to watch the instructions. So for example, having started at 8am, we would usually reach this point at about 1pm back when I used to teach in person.
.
After my last kayak developed a weight problem, I put our postal scale in the workshop and I’m going to be tracking every ounce that goes into this one. Having added 3 ribs, 1 deck beam and scaling this up 2% I doubt I’m come in much less than 30, but hopefully this will tame some of my crazier modification impulses.
