
Just a couple more pictures of the recent Greenland kayak build. I used rare earth pigment directly in the coating this time and really like the color. It’s a lot harder to get a nice finish with rare earth pigment than with acid dye, and the colors are limited, but if you manage to get it on there without making a streaky mess the reward is a finish that will look better as it ages.
Finished boat here is 32 lbs which appalling for a kayak that normally weighs 27. I can blame 2 lbs of that on the skeg install, and a pound on the extra coating and extra rib I added, but the rest, lets just say I got carried away with some modifications….
