Just added a couple new cockpit coaming videos to our FREE Skin on Frame Kayak Prep Course.
The first video goes into precise detail about the exact shaping for my steam bent keyhole cockpits. The second is an informal discussion about laminating a coaming.
I’m obsessed with cockpit geometry and outfitting and I have been steadily improving this coaming for over 20 years. It features solid thigh bracing, knee purchase, enough room to lift your legs, and a rock solid spray skirt attachment.
All of this definitely helps with comfort and boat control but it’s also just a basic safety issue. I feel pretty passionately about this subject which is why I decided to put up all of my coaming building instructions for free instead of keeping it behind a pay wall.
