The new Jorgensen low angle block plane is an incredible plane for the price. However, the old Stanley 60 1/2 still cuts better. I have no idea why, so I cut the Jorgensen body to match the 60 1/2, but it didn’t really make a difference. Both planes were dressed identically. The only factor I can’t control for is blade steel. The Jorgensen uses O1, the Stanley uses whatever it uses. So why is the Stanley cutting better? And if the perfect block plane has already been invented why doesn’t somebody just copy that plane instead of tweaking them?
