Day 2: Skin-on-frame rower-sailer

Day 2) SOF row/sailer, 6hrs. Made stems, set up the keel, milled ribs, built a new steam box.
The hardest part about prototyping new boats is the gnawing uncertainty that is constantly begging me to stop mid-build and change course. Like right now, I’m damn near certain that I’d be happier if I made this thing 1.5 inches narrower and beefed up the rib scantlings, but I also know that if I did that I’d lose a day, 100 bucks, and be just as likely to end up at the end wishing I’d stuck with the original plan. I’m deliberately going sparse on the framing here because the only way to know how light you can go is to build light, beat the hell out of a boat and see what fails. Sometimes you find your original fears were founded but just as often you’re surprised when something you swore was under framed stands the test of time. So we forge ahead, towards the failures that will lead to our successes. .
