Day 5, Skin-on-frame tandem canoe. Build time: 7 hrs.
Faired the stringers into the stems. I’m liking the new curved stem shape, it feels right on a full size canoe. I’m wondering if I could still nest a pair together? Wouldn’t make sense for a pack canoe where every inch counts, but for a pair of full size solo canoes where one could be a foot shorter than the other, it seems very doable. I think for flat water distance tripping a tandem makes more sense, but for moving water the catamaran system I developed for the pack canoes was a ridiculously fun and safe way to run the river.
Added some blocks to the stems in case I decide to add a rudder for a sail. .
Glued some blocks to the tops of the gunwales towards the ends. This does literally nothing functional, I just think it looks cool, which is an important boating consideration.
Glued on blocking for the seats and the thwart. Already dreaming of outriggers for rowing….
