“Hi Brian, I finally completed the build of our pair of nesting pack canoes. We’ve now had the chance to paddle them several times on a few different bodies of water and are able to report how extremely pleased we are with them. The boats each came in at about 18lbs, are surprisingly fast, and handle extremely well- allowing them to be paddled with a level of confidence that I didn’t expect for such small boats (12’-2” and 11’-4”). I built these to enable us to have boats that could easily travel with our slide-in truck camper and sized them so the nested pair can fit through the back door and get lashed down on the cab-over bed. We’ve done a few trips with them this way and it’s working great.
I’ve built about 10 small boats over the last 30+ years using mostly stitch & glue and SOF construction and I really appreciated the choices you made in these designs to help ensure success for your students. The course material that you and Liz obviously work so hard on are also second-to-none.
Attached are some photos from a trip last week to the St. Regis Canoe area in NY’s Adirondacks. Also, I’ve been posting some photos of the build along the way to my instagram account at @dwsdws12
Thanks again, we are super glad that we chose your 66 system for our build! – Don”
