Here’s a couple videos and some photos of a prototype skin on frame rowing shell designed and built by Joe, a high school student in Maryland that I’ve been mentoring for a school project. (See this post from a few weeks ago for framing photos)
This is the second saran wrap test of this boat. This time Joe lowered the seat and modified the framing. The trim looks pretty good according to his rowing coach, and the stability of this 13 inch wide 24 foot long racing shell looks twitchy, but manageable. Joe plans to skin it next and add a small skeg to the stern.
Joe designed this entire boat himself based on examples he was familiar with, and we consulted over FaceTime as needed. Nice work Joe.
