Just a quick (not very good) video clip of Tom (190 lbs) in the new 22.5” size LPB. I need to pull a tiny bit of volume out of the stern and add 1/4” of tail rocker but its trimming close enough to right that I feel comfortable releasing it with the next major LPB plan upgrade in a few weeks.
All versions are 16’4” but the depth and width changes. The new size range will be:
21.5 – 140lb paddler size
22 – 165lb paddler size
22.5 – 190lb paddler size
23 – 210lb paddler size
23.5 – 235lb paddler size
24 – 250lb paddler size
I’d like to add a 21 for 120lb paddlers, but I’m out of time to work on the design for this year.
Every boat building medium has advantages and disadvantages. there’s no better or worse, just trade offs. The fiberglass and plastic builders can create shapes that I can only dream of, (and you can do an awful lot with strips as well), but the speed of skin on frame building gives me the ability to develop a much wider range of sizes before I run out of money and time.
In the past the month we’ve prototyped three new sizes for this boat. None of them are exactly right but all of them are decent and I’ve got Builds for each of them going on right now to proof the changes.
